Ukraine Launches New Program to Rebuild Schools in Liberated Regions

On June 15, 2024, the Ukrainian government announced the launch of a large-scale program to restore school infrastructure in regions liberated from Russian occupation. The project aims to rebuild over 200 schools that were partially or entirely destroyed during the conflict.

The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine emphasized that restoring educational institutions is a government priority, as access to quality education is vital for the country's future. The program involves not only repairing buildings but also implementing modern teaching technologies, creating safe shelters, and equipping schools with new facilities.

Key Features of the Program:

  • Infrastructure Reconstruction: Construction and renovation of school facilities using modern energy-efficient technologies.

  • Safety Measures: Equipping shelters that meet safety standards.

  • Educational Innovation: Installation of interactive boards, computer labs, and STEM facilities.

In the first phase, scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, 50 schools in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Donetsk regions are set to be reconstructed. The funding is supported by international partners, including UNICEF and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

"This program symbolizes Ukraine's rebirth. We are building not only new schools but also a new future for our children," the minister emphasized.

The project has received positive feedback from international donors, who praised its comprehensive approach to restoring education in Ukraine.
